Behind the Scenes: Bay-mageddon
Considering Michael Bay’s reputation for being shall we say – in the kindest way possible – less than humble, it’s not terribly surprising that the collection of behind the scenes stills available at michaelbay.com focus on either Bay wielding the camera or Bay pointing authoritatively.
That said, the site offers a large collection of images that provide a glimpse into the scope of big budget moviemaking on the sets of one of the most commercially successful directors of the last two decades. You can check out all the pics here. Unfortunately, the only films not represented are Bad Boys and The Rock – the two Bay films I actually retain fondness for.
If that’s not enough Bay for you, here’s GQ’s oral history of the director from July 2011. There are a few interesting tidbits of trivia (Aaron Sorkin did some re-writes on The Rock; Robert Towne lent his considerable expertise for an uncredited punch-up of Armageddon) and some classic Bay lines such as “I don’t change my style for anybody. Pussies do that.” I believe he’s quoting Robert Bresson there.
