They don’t make them like they used to. And they certainly don’t SELL them like they used to. That’s evident from perusing the vintage pressbooks and advertising materials available on the blog Zombos’ Closet. In tribute to the showmanship of a bygone era of ballyhoo, Zombos’ Closet has been posting pressbook materials aimed at theater owners for the last six years. Dozens and dozens, everything from genre classics (The Exorcist, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Gremlins) to cult items (the films of William Castle, Roger Corman and American International Pictures) to the not-so-classic (Laserblast and something with the unwieldy title The Rats Are Coming! The Zombies are Here!).
Below is a small appetizer of what Zombos’ Closet’s has to offer, including instructions on how to rig theater seats with electrical shocks courtesy of The Tingler and a liability waiver for patrons of The Fly who’ve elected to see the movie alone. You can find much more by visiting Zombos’ blog.
