Behind the Scenes: Locke (2013)
The car rig used on Locke, a single-character drama starring Tom Hardy that unfolds almost entirely inside a BMW X5 as Hardy’s character engages in a series of phone conversations during a 90-minute drive from Birmingham to London.
Locke was shot primarily on a trio of Red Epics in only eight days. Director Steven Knight essentially filmed the entire script twice each night in sequence, stopping only to reload the digital media when it reached its 30-minute storage capacity. Both the NY Times and Grantland have put up informative “making of” pieces detailing Locke’s production.
