Behind the Scenes: James Garner in Grand Prix (1966)

Grand Prix (1966) (behind the clapperboard)

Sad to hear that actor James Garner passed away today. I still vividly remember watching Rockford Files and Quincy M.E. reruns back-to-back in the afternoons as a kid during summer vacation.

In the picture above you’ll find Garner preparing to do his own driving stunts in John Frankenheimer’s 1966 racing flick Grand Prix – with what I’m assuming to be the cumbersome contemporary equivalent of a GoPro rigged to the vehicle.

The pic comes courtesy of the excellent behind the scenes photo collection of Behind the Clapperboard.

Grand Prix was filmed with Super Panavision 70 cameras. Pretty amazing!
