Behind the Scenes: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)
In the half century since its release, French novelist Pierre Boulle’s’s 1963 sci-fi satire Planet of the Apes has spawned eight movies and three franchises – none of which bears more than a moderate resemblance to the source material. Many of the memorable pieces of the original 1968 film version – the classic twist ending, a hirsute middle-aged Charlton Heston bellowing in a loin cloth – were products of the imaginations of screenwriters.
The latest of Boulle’s descendants, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, was shot in native 3D with Arri Alexas and Leica lenses in British Columbia and Louisiana. Here’s a gallery of behind the scenes pics, most of which feature guys in motion capture suits.
