October is here, which means another year of Deep Fried Movies’ 31 Days of Horror. I’ll be posting a genre-related treat each day this month, starting with this Universal Studios-centric collection of Swedish posters from the Golden Age of Horror.
We may only be two weeks into the new year, but we find it hard to fathom Jay Shaw’s Cooties poster not making Deep Fried Movies’ list of 2014’s best horror ads.
Cooties features Elijah Wood, Rainn Wilson and 30 Rock page Jack McBrayer battling a horde of gradeschoolers turned bonkers by a virus. It’s currently set for an October release.
Unlike most genres, horror movies aren’t typically sold based on star power. Thus while the majority of wide releases now feature posters with the photoshopped mugs of movie stars, horror films – particularly those of the indie variety – remain freer to employ less literal advertising artwork.
